There was no celebration on the road for the Super Eagles duo of Alex Iwobi, Calvin Bassey, and Fulham at Wolves in the Premier League.

Alex Iwobi and Calvin Bassey endured a disappointing evening as Fulham's winning run came to an end with a 2-0 defeat against Wolves at Molineux.

The Nigerian duo started for Marco Silva's side but were ultimately undone by second-half strikes from Rayan Ait Nouri and a Tom Cairney own goal.

Iwobi was lively throughout, completing 79% of his passes, creating seven chances and making six recoveries as he continues to impress in Fulham's midfield.

At the back, Bassey was his typically assured self, completing 89% of his passes, winning 100% of his tackles and making eight recoveries in an accomplished defensive display.

However, it was Ait Nouri's 52nd minute strike off a Bassey headed clearance that broke the deadlock for the hosts. And things went from bad to worse when Cairney put through his own net 12 minutes later.

Despite their industry, Iwobi pulled one back in added time but they were still unable to inspire a Fulham comeback as the Cottagers' three-game winning streak came to a halt in the West Midlands.

The disappointment will be heightened given their recent heroics in big games, with both Nigerians playing starring roles as Fulham beat rivals Manchester United and Brighton in their previous matches.

Iwobi capped a man-of-the-match display by scoring the winner in that seismic 2-1 victory at Old Trafford before Bassey's burgeoning reputation grew again with another assured outing.

While this Wolves defeat is a minor setback, Iwobi and Bassey's consistent excellence has established them as key figures in Fulham's impressive first season back in the top flight.

With 10 games remaining, the west Londoners have little to fear as they continue to exceed expectations thanks in no small part to their indomitable Nigerian pairing.
