Dortmund returned to the top of the Bundesliga table after defeating Augsburg and taking advantage of Bayern Munich’s loss to Leipzig.

Bayern Munich's loss to Leipzig yesterday gave Dortmund the advantage to go top of the league table and the Black and Yellows did not hesitate and took advantage by defeating Augsburg 2-0 to go two points clear of Bayern Munich.

Dortmund scored twice in the second half with two goals from Sebastian Haller and another from Julian Brandt after Augsburg defender Felix Uduokhai received a red card for a bad tackle in the first half.

As it happened

Dortmund manager Edin Terzic made just one change to his side that defeated M’gladbach last week while Augsburg manager also made three changes to his side that lost to Bochum.

The game started with Dortmund asking all the questions from the home side but could not take their chances. However, Augsburg were one man down in the 38th minute when Felix Uduokhai received a red card after his awful challenge. He completely lost his temper and referee Tobias Welz sent him off the pitch.

The second half started and Dortmund kept knocking on the door. Shortly after the door was opened in the 59th minute when Sebastien Haller got the ball in front of the goal and he couldn't miss from there. His low drive went in off the left-hand post.

Dortmund added the second in the 84th minute after the Augsburg goalkeeper made a superb save, but the ball rebounded off him out to Sebastien Haller who fired a low drive into the middle of the net.

The away side was not done yet as they added the third goal to finish off the game. Julian Brandt received an accurate pass before unleashing a shot straight into the bottom right corner. Good team effort.

The win sends Dortmund back to the top of the Bundesliga table as they edge closer to lifting the trophy after Bayern Munich’s loss on Saturday to Leipzig.
