Dominik Szoboszlai has completed his move from Leipzig to Liverpool after his release clause was triggered by the Reds.

Liverpool paid a release clause of £60 million to Leipzig making him their second signing of this summer transfer.

The Hungarian was one of Leipzig’s best players last season which attracted interest from several clubs in Europe.

1. About Dominik Szoboszlai

Dominik Szoboszlai, a professional football player from Hungary who was born on October 25, 2000, first played as a midfielder for Leipzig before joining Liverpool. He now serves as Hungary's national team captain.

At Austrian club FC Liefering, Red Bull Salzburg's reserve team, Szoboszlai made his senior debut in 2017.

Szoboszlai made his parent club debut in January 2018 and started the 2018–19 season as a starter.After three seasons, he assisted his team in capturing three league championships and two domestic cups.

The new Liverpool man became the most expensive football player in Hungary's history in January 2021 when he signed with RB Leipzig for an estimated €20 million.

In his three seasons at the club, he helped his side win two DFB-Pokal titles before he was signed by Liverpool this summer.

2. Personal life

Szoboszlai's mothers' name is Zsanett Németh and his father's name is Zsolt. He was given birth to in Székesfehérvár.

Dominik's mother was only 19 years old and his father was 23 when he was born. His father competed in the Austrian Football Bundesliga's lower divisions.

When he was three years old, his father began teaching him how to slalom with a ball while setting up plastic bottles on the ground.

Bendegz Bolla claimed in an interview with Nemzeti Sport that Szoboszlai's father frequently required Dominik to practise with golf balls when he was a young boy.

3. Girlfriend

The latest Liverpool recruit is presently dating Fanni Gécsek, a well-known model and influencer from Hungary.

Szoboszlai and Fanni Gécsek both originated from Budapest. Since 2020, it is believed that Dominik and Gescek have been dating.

4. Club career

Szoboszlai started his career playing for FC Liefering in the second division. In 2018, he made his debut against Austria Wien coming in to replace Enock Mwepu in the 57th minute.

Against Wacker Innsbruck on March 17, 2019, he scored his first league goal and also participated in the Champions League for the first time in 2019 when Salzburg defeated Genk 6-2 and scored his first goal in the competition.

In a 5-1 victory for Salzburg over Sturm Graz in 2020, he netted a hat-trick. He also concluded the year with 9 goals and 14 assists in 27 league games.

Furthermore, he won the Bundesliga's Player of the Season award for the 2019–20 season in Austrian football.

Szoboszlai was signed by RB Leipzig in 2020 for a reported €20 million cost and a four-and-a-half-year deal lasting until June 2025.

He made 31 appearances and scored 6 goals in the 2022–23 Bundesliga season. On September 10, 2022, he scored his first goal of the year in a 3-0 victory over Borussia Dortmund.

Szoboszlai's release clause was allegedly valued up to £60 million when Liverpool activated it, making him the third-most expensive signing in club history. Liverpool confirmed that Szoboszlai had been signed on a five-year deal, subject to a work visa.

5. International career

Szoboszlai led the Hungary U17 squad to a sixth-place finish at the 2017 UEFA European Under-17 Championship in Croatia while scoring two goals himself.

Also, he led the Hungary Under-19 squad in the 2019 UEFA European Under-19 Championship.

In June 2017, he was given his first call-up to the senior Hungary team for the friendlies against Russia and the 2018 FIFA World Cup qualification match against Andorra.

In 2019, he made his senior team debut against Slovakia in a Euro 2020 qualifier, coming on as a replacement for László Kleinheisler in the 54th minute.

During the same UEFA Euro 2020 campaign, he converted a free kick against the same opposition, Slovakia, to register his debut international goal.

Szoboszlai was named the new captain of the national team by Szoboszlai's teammates and Marco Rossi following the resignation of dám Szalai and the long-term injury of Péter Gulcsi.

In a 3-0 victory for Hungary against Bulgaria in the UEFA Euro 2024 qualifying at the Puskás Aréna, he scored his first goal as a captain.

6. Playing position

The Hungarian midfielder Dominik Szoboszlai is majorly known as a midfielder which is his natural position.

He can play as a centre midfielder and an attacking midfielder, depending on how suitable you prefer to use him.

During his playing days at Leipzig, he was deployed as a central midfielder where he flourished last season.
