Potter left the club 11th on the Premier League table.

After an ill-fated spell of seven months at the helm of Chelsea, Graham Potter was shown the door on Sunday with interim coach Bruno Saltor revealing that the players were dejected following the sacking.

For the first time in the recent past, Chelsea fired two managers in a single season after relieving Thomas Tuchel of his duties back in September and again let go of Potter following a string of poor results.

Speaking in a pre-match press conference ahead of the Liverpool game slated for Tuesday, Saltor admitted that the players will be left downcast by Potter leaving.

“They will be sad as well because they know the level of human being that Graham is. They will take responsibility as they have done since day one. I just expect them to be next to us and supportive,” said Saltor.

The final straw for Potter was the 2-0 home loss to Aston Villa which saw them plummet to 11th on the Premier League log with 10 games left to the end of the season.

A number of coaches have been linked with the vacant managerial role including Luis Enrique, Mauricio Pochettino, and Julian Nagelsmann.

Saltor revealed that he spoke to Potter before the press conference adding that the club has endured a challenging spell since the manager was sent packing.

“I just spoke to Graham five minutes ago and he sent his regards to all of you. Obviously, it's been a difficult 24 hours for all of us, for the staff, for the families and now we just have to deal with the situation.

He's just been really supportive. More the call was to say hello to all of you,” added Saltor.
