The West African nation is in line to host the 34th edition of the men's AFCON: the second time they would be doing so having first hosted the tournament in 1984.

Meanwhile, Nigeria's representative in the Women's Champions League qualifiers will be decided via a Super 6 playoff, following the conclusion of the 2023 NWFL season.
The last two editions of the Women's Champions League saw Rivers Angels (2021) and Bayelsa Queens (2022) qualify from the WAFU Zone B region, with the latter reaching the semifinals of the Champions League.
Participating in the NWFL Super 6 playoffs that would produce Nigeria's 2023 champions include Rivers Angels, Confluence Queens, Edo Queens, FC Robo, Delta Queens, and the defending champions Bayelsa Queens.
