Ivan Toney has been given a lifeline by Brentford as the club as set to discuss a new contract with him in the summer despite his lengthy eight-month ban.

Brentford are ready to stick by their striker Ivan Toney who was recently handed a eight-month ban for football related activities.

The England international was slammed with a lengthy ban and a whopping £50,000 fine for his involvement in gambling.

What we know

According to the BBC, Brentford are set to hold talks with the 27-year-old in the summer to offer him a new contract that will keep him at the Gtech Community Stadium for longer periods.

Toney has been in remarkable form this season scoring 18 goals for the Bees this season and have secured their status for the 2023-24 Premier League season.

Toney’s career so far this season

He scored four goals in the month of April in the win against Nottingham Forest, Aston Villa and in the loss to Newcastle as well as the 3-3 draw with Brighton.

The England born Jamaican striker was given a call up to the England national side in 2022 in the Nation League games against Italy and Germany but was an unused substitute.

He finally made his debut in March 2023, when the Three Lions played their qualifying game against Ukraine where he featured for only nine minutes.

Brentford are currently ninth on the Premier League table but have a slim chance of making it through to the Europa League or the Conference League with two games left to play.

The Bees will be away at Tottenham in their penultimate game of the 2022-23 campaign before hosting defending champions Man City on the last day.

Brentford will be heading into the third season in the English topflight division as the club will be looking to make reinforcements for Toney who has 32 goals in the last two seasons with the Bees.
