Super Eagles striker Victor Boniface shared a cold story about how legendary coach Jose Mourinho endured the heaviest defeat of his career, leaving fans stunned by the revelation.

Super Eagles forward Victor Boniface has dropped a chilling account of how Jose Mourinho endured the biggest and most humiliating defeat of his managerial career.

Boniface has shedded light on the brutal conditions and surprising circumstances behind the shock 6-1 thrashing of Roma by Norwegian side Bodo/Glimt four years ago in the Europa Conference League.

Mourinho thrashed

Mourinho’s Roma found themselves overwhelmed in what remains one of the darkest moments in the Portuguese coach’s storied career, according to a BBC Sports report.

The Norwegian champions led 2-1 at halftime, with goals from Erik Botheim and a stunning Patrick Berg curler, before Carles Perez pulled one back for Roma.

Despite Mourinho’s tactical tweaks with several substitutions after the break, Bodo/Glimt continued to dominate, running out 6-1 winners with Ola Solbakken and Amahl Pellegrino adding to the misery.

This stunning result was the first time Mourinho’s side conceded six or more goals in a single game during what was the 1,008th match of his coaching career.

Boniface narrates

In an Instagram video, Boniface, who played for Bodo/Glimt but recently sat on the bench at Bayer Leverkusen, recounted the freezing conditions and the unique atmosphere that contributed to the historic result.

The Nigerian striker painted a vivid picture of the small Norwegian city where the club is based, describing it as “freezing” and isolated.

"I think Norway is one of the coldest countries in the world, maybe Norway or Russia," Boniface began. "In Norway, bro, I played in a small city called Bodo, but they are a top club now, Bodo/Glimt.”

“The city is so small. If you land from the airport to the stadium, it’s like a 3-minute drive to my house and 2 minutes to walk around—you just see everybody."

He added, “It’s surrounded by the sea and it’s freezing cold. After training, you just go inside because it’s very cold. I think for me, a Nigerian coming here the first time, I was the only one it affected.”

Boniface recalled Mourinho’s reaction upon arriving at the stadium for the Conference League clash.

“Mourinho came to the pitch. He took out his phone and videoed everything. It was the first time I saw Mourinho do that. He posted it, saying ‘This is the situation, we are about to play very well,’ or something like that.”

The striker humourously responded in the comments on Mourinho’s post, confessing he had no idea then that he would reach such a high point in his career.

“I told him, ‘You never see anything yet.’ It was so cold—the Bodo players are used to Scandinavia’s chill. They warm up wearing snow boots and long gear that you sit on the bench in. You have to use body oil to keep warm.

“The stadium and city are so small. We knack Mourinho - that’s the highest defeat ever, check online. I think it was 6-1 or 7. I never played that game myself but it was so cold, Mourinho’s side couldn’t do anything.”

Boniface’s story shines a spotlight on the unique challenges Mourinho encountered during what remains a historic low point in his illustrious career, who went on to lift the crown with the Italians.
