The Civil guard have determined that referees in Spain were not impartial during the reign of the referee chief Barcelona were found paying Enrique Negreira.

Spanish police have reportedly concluded their investigation and found that referees were not impartial during Enrique Negreira's reign as vice president of the Technical Committee of Referees.

The 77-year-old retired match official held an executive role between 1994 and 2018. It was discovered during a tax audit that he was a recipient of a substantial amount of money from Barcelona between 2001 and 2018, prompting an investigation into potential match influencing.

What happened

The Catalan-based club were charged in court for corruption but have repeatedly insisted on their innocence, claiming the payments made were for professional services.

The Civil Guard then investigated Negreira's tenure, and according to reports, they found that there was no irregularity to suggest impartiality during that period.

However, according to El Mundo, Barcelona "have not provided the identity of the professionals who would have developed the services" and have also not provided copies of the videos and document reports they claim they paid Negreira to provide for them.

Also, the law enforcement arm stated that the reported over €8 million purported to be the sum total of the fee Barcelona paid to the referee chief was false.
