Ilkay Gundogan is set to be a free agent this summer and Barcelona are looking to offer him a three-year contract and convince him to join the club according to reports.

The German midfielder was one of Pep Guardiola’s key players, helping them lift the Premier League trophy for the third time in a row.

The midfielder's contract expires this summer and Barcelona are trying to convince him to join Xavi’s team with a three-year contract deal on the table.

Barcelona move for Gundogan

Gundogan, who has so far rejected City's suggestions for an extension, found Barcelona's offer to be very attractive.

According to Sport, the Catalan team initially gave him a two-year contract with an optional third due to his age. And in order to finalise the transaction, that third year has now been made permanent.

Barcelona are currently looking to bring in new players to the team after winning the LaLiga title. They have also been linked with a move for Lionel Messi but their financial issues may be a stumbling block for the acquisition of the PSG star.

Guardiola praise Gundogan’s quality

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has praised the German midfielder Gundogan for the quality he possesses.

Speaking last month, manager Pep Guardiola said, “Nobody knows what is going to happen, maybe he will stay hopefully. He can show again and again and again the quality and importance and his commitment, to all of us, to the club.

“Not just scoring goals, now he has his momentum. Against Leeds he was the player and again (against Everton). He can do everything and everything well. He doesn't talk much but when he talks everyone listens and this is the power of the leader.

“He shows his leadership in every training session, arriving on time, living 24 hours your job and playing like he is playing... he is so clever and he is a guy who handles the pressure well.'
