Oshoala bags brace for Barcelona

Barcelona went in front in the 21st minute when Oshoala headed in a pullback by Ana-Maria Crnogorčević.

In the 32nd minute, Barcelona got their second when Mariona Caldentey unleashed a shot past the goalkeeper.

Barcelona went to the halftime break with a two-goal lead and started the second period with the same intensity.

Oshoala grabbed her second of the game and the third for Barcelona in the 57th minute by converting a low cross by Caldentey.

Oshoala was denied a chance at a hattrick in the 74th minute when Head Coach  Jonatan Giráldez took her off for Keira Walsh.

Barcelona held on to record a three-goal lead and now have a 10-point lead ahead of second-placed Levante.

Asisat Oshoala was left out of FIFA The Best nominees' list.

It was a statement game for Oshoala who was missing among the 14 players nominated for 2022 The Best FIFA Women’s Player award.

Oshoala a five-time Confederation of Africa (CAF) Women's Player of the Year winner played a key role for Barcelona as they won the league title.

She contributed 20 goals to emerge top scorer in the league and put in a decent performance as Barcelona advanced to the final of the 2022 Women's Champions League.

Oshoala returns to action with Barcelona when they take on archrivals Real Madrid in the Spanish Women's Super Cup final scheduled for  Thursday, January 19, 2023.
