The former Blues star said, “Of course, we need a number nine, and he [Ronaldo] is someone Delap can learn from.”

He also added that seeing Ronaldo at the expanded FIFA Club World Cup would be a dream for fans, especially with the possibility of another tournament showdown between Ronaldo and Messi.

While Ronaldo’s future at Al-Nassr is still uncertain and no new deal has been signed, Mikel’s endorsement has hit a nerve with fans who feel the club should look forward, not back.

Mikel’s comments were meant to highlight Ronaldo’s experience and iconic status, Chelsea supporters were not having it.

On social media platform X (formerly Twitter), one fan’s reaction was so fiery it birthed the now-trending hashtag #ArrestMikel, while slamming the idea of signing a player who turns 40 this year.

Many fans voiced concern that such a move would be a step backwards, especially when the club is focused on rebuilding with youth under its new direction.
