Van Dijk has sent emotional message to injured Liverpool fans.
What Slott said
The Liverpool manager has explained his reason for missing the Manager of the Season award, as reported by Sportal.
"As you know, a shocking incident occurred yesterday in Liverpool where dozens of men, women, and children attending our parade were injured, and as a result, I had to withdraw from tonight's event in solidarity with all those affected.
"This was not a decision I took lightly, but I felt it was absolutely the right thing to do given the seriousness of the situation. I hope you will understand.
)
"I would like to take this opportunity to thank the wider football community, including the League Managers Association, the Premier League, and the many clubs who would have been represented tonight, for the support we have received over the last 24 hours.
"Football is, and always should be, a game built on rivalry, but it's also a great source of togetherness, particularly at times like these.
"I would also like to pay tribute to the emergency services and other authorities in Liverpool, who sprang into action as soon as the incident occurred.
"Along with the supporters and passers-by who helped each other in their time of need, I think everyone involved deserves our gratitude.
"I am honored to be named Premier League Manager of the Season, so thank you to the panel for selecting me. My main reason for saying I accept the award with humility is that I know the incredibly high standard of managers in the Premier League.
)
"Needless to say, I'm incredibly proud to be a member of the League Managers Association and it is therefore a real honour to be presented with the Sir Alex Ferguson Trophy for Manager of the Year.
"To receive the votes of my peers is so special, particularly knowing the incredible quality of those who have won this award previously. Sir Alex, I look forward to meeting you at a later date to receive my award from you.
"I also look forward to attending my first League Managers Association Awards dinner on a future occasion. Thank you again for your understanding and support.
You may wish to join me in sending your thoughts and prayers to those affected by yesterday's events.
