Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand believes he can keep Manchester City’s rampant striker Erling Haaland quiet if they squared up against each other.
Ferdinand made the comment after watching Haaland help City destroy Arsenal at the Etihad to keep their treble dreams alive.
The Cityzens defeated the Gunners 4-1 to move within two points of the Premier League leaders with two games in hand.
City’s crucial win saw them keep the hope of winning a historic treble this season that will see the club emulate their city rivals' 1999 set, the only team to have achieved that feat.
Ferdinand believes he can stop Haaland
Speaking after watching City beat Arsenal, Ferdinand noted that his successful Manchester United team under Sir Alex Ferguson will beat the current City side managed by Pep Guardiola.
The United legend also added that he will pocket the rampant Haaland who has scored over 49 goals in 43 games this season for City.
'’Tough. It would be tough games,” Ferdinand said per Mail Online. “Pep's teams are hard to play against, I mean, we were annihilated by his Barcelona team.”
“So this team with the weapons they have, with Haaland and (Kelvin) De Bruyne connecting it would be a difficult one but I think we'd win 3-1.”
On the 22-year-old Haaland, the former England international added;
'’He would be in there somewhere,” Ferdinand noted while jokingly looking at his pocket.
Ferdinand, 44, is regarded as one of the best centre-backs in the history of the Premier League after a successful career with the Red Devils. He was a part of the United team that won the Premier League and Champions League in the 2007/2008 season.
