Napoli have been handed a major injury blow against AC Milan.

Napoli's president confirms that Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen is set to miss the first-leg of Napoli's UEFA Champions League quarter-final clash against AC Milan on Wednesday.

The 24-year-old hurt his adductor muscle over the international break and has been in recovery since. He has been training individually, but he is not expected to be fit enough to face the Rossoneri.

Osimhen ruled out

Fabrizio Romano reports a statement made by Napoli's president Aurelio De Laurentis ruling out Osimhen from Wednesday's clash against AC Milan in the Champions League.

Laurentis said the Lagos-born striker is not in the right condition to play, suggesting he has not returned to full fitness from his injury, and he hopes the striker would be available in the second-leg on April 18.

“Victor is not in the conditions to play, unfortunately, so we hope to have him back for return fixture at the Maradona on April 18,” he said.

I Partenopei will be hosted by Milan at the San Siro on Wednesday night and will return the favour a week later at the Diego Maradona stadium.

More on the injury

As previously reported, Osimhen has been out of contention for two weeks after an abductor muscle injury sustained while on international duty with Nigeria but could be set for a return when Napoli play Milan in the UCL on Wednesday.

The forward was pictured in individual training ahead of the crucial all-Italian quarterfinal and also posted a picture back out on the field on his Instagram stories.

With the rest of the Napoli squad getting a day off after their exertions against Lecce, Osimhen took the opportunity to get back on the grass with a view to being fit enough to play in the UCL fixture against Milan.

The Nigerian striker’s return is a welcome development for Napoli after they struggled without him during his most recent absence.
