Nigeria won the prize for the greatest initiative in the sport for 2023 by the International Cricket Council (ICC).

The president of the Nigeria Cricket Federation (NCF), Uyi Akpata, expressed his delight at the honor bestowed upon them by the International Cricket Council (ICC).

Along with three other African nations, Team Nigeria in cricket won the prize for the greatest initiative in the sport for 2023.

Akpata said the success story will inspire them to raise the bar for the 9jakids initiative as they are reproducing the "working" formula in other northern Nigerian states.

He said, “We were quite optimistic that we could meet our objective of introducing over 100,000 females to the game annually.

"But we did not expect that the major contributor would be Zamfara, a state in north-west Nigeria, generally perceived to have a cultural bias that limits the open interaction of females.

“A combination of factors came into play, including an effective partnership with the state's education authorities and having dedicated and extremely passionate resources on the ground.

"This success story has given us the impetus to double our expectations under the 9jakid's program, as we replicate the 'winning' formula in other states in Northern Nigeria", he said.
