Cricket: Nigeria's Female Yellow Greens face Malawi in must-win Kwibuka clash

A victory over Malawi will secure a third-place playoff spot for the Yellow Greens.

Nigeria's women's cricket team, the Female Yellow Greens will take on Malawi in a do-or-die match at the ongoing 2024 Kwibuka Women's T20i Cricket tournament.

The Female Yellow Greens are currently in fourth with a superior net run rate to Kenya; a victory over Malawi will secure a third-place playoff spot.

Nigeria's hope for a top-two finish was dashed by a heavy defeat to Zimbabwe on Wednesday.

We can't underate Malawi - captain Favour Eseigbe

Nigeria's captain Favour Eseigbe has emphasized the importance of focus as his team face a Malawi side who have recorded just one win.

“Results aside, we have some really good performances. At the same time we need the result to be in the desirable position. So, we can’t underrate our opponents, we just have to do our job and continue the learning curve.

“We won’t back down, we are here to compete after all,” Eseigbe said.

Race for Second spot

Kenya will also be vying for third place as they face Botswana today.

Meanwhile, hosts Rwanda, currently third, see a chance to snatch a top-two spot if they can upset second-placed Zimbabwe.

Uganda, already assured of a finals berth, face Cameroon in their final round-robin match as the 10th edition of the Kwibuka tournament concludes on Saturday with classification matches.
