The series between the Memphis Grizzlies and the Los Angeles Lakers after Game 2 is tied.
The Memphis Grizzlies recorded a 103-93 victory against the Los Angeles Lakers in Game 2 of an NBA Western Conference round one Playoff fixture in the early hours of Thursday, April 20, 2023.
The Lakers needed unlikely heroes of Austin Reaves and Rui Hachimura to take Game 1 in Memphis.
In Game 2, the Memphis Grizzlies were without their star player Ja Morant who suffered a wrist injury late in their first match-up.
Without Morant, the Grizzlies started out hot putting up 30 points to take an 11-point lead at the end of the first quarter
The Lakers got back in the game in the second quarter by trading buckets but the Grizzlies extended their lead to 15 points going to the halftime break.
To start the third quarter, the Lakers got going and were able to cut the deficit down to 12.
Both teams went back and forth in the fourth quarter but big shots from Dillon Brooks late were enough for the Grizzlies to hold on for a 10-point victory.
LeBron James unable to power Lakers to win against Grizzlies in Game 2
The NBA All-time top scorer LeBron James was unable to inspire the Lakers to a win against the Grizzlies.
Speaking at the postgame press conference, James warned his Lakers teammates that Memphis could easily take Game 3.
He said, “‘We shouldn’t feel comfortable going home with a 1-1 tie.
“If we’re comfortable, they’ll come in and take that homecourt advantage right back from us.”
In 39 minutes of action, James put up 28 points, 12 rebounds, one steal, three assists, and one block.
He made 12 of 23 shots including one of eight from three-point range and three of four from the free-throw line.
James and the Lakers will now host the Grizzlies in Game 3 scheduled for Sunday, April 23, 2023.
