Kevin Durant sprained his ankle in the Suns’ March 8 NBA game against the Oklahoma City Thunder.

He was then ruled out of Phoenix’s 132-101 win after slipping on the court during pregame warmups.  Durant was optimistic of a return in two weeks after that injury and it is looking likely as he progresses in his recovery.

Durant, 34, made his team debut for the Suns after arriving from the Brooklyn Nets via trade, against Charlotte and was solid on both ends of the floor. Through his three games with Phoenix, he is averaging 26.7 points, 7.3 rebounds and 3.7 assists.

Kevin Durant says Phoenix Suns have ‘all the pieces’ to succeed

This signifies excellent news for the Suns who have struggled a bit to find some real identity in the second half of the season.

Durant’s potential return next Wednesday would give the Suns seven games to solidify their postseason positioning, earning an automatic playoff spot and push into the postseason with their best players available.

Big picture for Suns and Durant

As long as Durant is healthy, the Suns are a genuine contender to win it all. There are some who believe failure to at least make the finals should be viewed as a disaster.

For them to even have a shot at success, Kevin Durant must be available.

The Suns (38-34) sit fourth in the Western Conference.
