Following her record-breaking moments at Grand Slam Track in Philadelphia, Melissa Jefferson-Wooden has described the 'sweet' feeling of beating Olympic champion Gabby Thomas in the women's 200m event.
The in-form speedster broke to new grounds when she defeated Thomas in the 200m Short Sprints category, clocking a brilliant Personal Best (PB) of 21.99s as the Olympic champion was second in 22.10s.

Not resting on her oars, Jefferson-Wooden came back on Day 2, blasting to another new PB and world-leading time of 10.73s (the joint second-fastest time in history) to dominantly win the 100m event, thus leaving Philadelphia as the Grand Slam Champion in the women's Short Sprints category.

Her success meant she became the only female athlete to claim the Grand Slam title in all three cities (Kingston, Miami, and Philadelphia), and walked away with a combined winning prize money of $300,000.
Speaking to NBC Olympics & Paralympics after her remarkable achievements in Philadelphia, an elated Jefferson-Wooden discussed her highlight between defeating Gabby Thomas and running 10.73s.
"I don't know, they're both kind of sweet. I don't know, that 10.73 just really sits right with my spirit," said the Paris Olympics 100m bronze medallist.

When asked how happy she was signing for the Grand Slam Track League and how it's going to feel like a turning point in her career, Jefferson-Wooden responded:
"I'm so happy. I feel like this is the perfect setup that I need for the year, getting ready for the world championships and things like that.

This will keep her in high confidence ahead of the US Championships in July, where she'll be aiming to win the US 100m and 200m titles, with full focus on winning her first medals at the World Championships in Tokyo this summer.
