Danielle Williams became the surprise women's 100m Hurdles world champion in Budapest as Tobi Amusan finished sixth.

Nigeria's World Record holder Tobi Amusan got dethroned as the women's 100m Hurdles world champion, after finishing sixth in the final in a modest 12.62s at the World Championships in Budapest.

Amusan, running under pressure as the reigning champion and with the hopes of millions of Nigerians to get a medal, couldn't hit her speed gear that saw her win the world title last year in Oregon.

Jamaica's Danielle Williams was the surprise winner, reclaiming her world title from 2015 in a Season's Best (SB) of 12.43s (-0.2), and edging Jasmine Camacho-Quinn in 12.44s for silver, while Keni Harrison settled for the bronze medal in 12.46s.

The race didn't live up to expectations based on the times as everyone expected them to go faster considering the quality of the field, but Amusan will take solace in the fact that her WR is still intact and she gave her best after a rough past few weeks.
