Abdul-Rasheed Saminu dethroned Akani Simbine as the world leader after powering to a new Ghanaian National Record of 9.86s.
University of Southern Florida's(USF) Abdul-Rasheed Saminu has become the new world leader, after powering to an outstanding Ghanaian National Record to win the men's 100m event at the NCAA East Regionals.
The 27-year-old clocked a blistering Personal Best (PB) time of 9.86s (0.6), defeating Nigerian sprint sensation Kanyinsola Ajayi, who also clocked a huge PB of 9.95s.
With his astonishing time, Saminu broke Benjamin Azamati-Kwaku's previous Ghanaian National Record of 9.90s set in 2022, and it's just 0.04s off Christian Coleman's NCAA Record.

Nigeria's Tima Godbless blazed to a new 100m World Lead to become fourth fastest Nigerian woman in history.
He also dethroned in-form South African sprint legend Akani Simbine as the world leader. In addition, he automatically punched his ticket to the NCAA Championships in two weeks and the World Championships in Tokyo this summer.
Saminu also shattered his previous PB of 10.02s set last year at the NCAA Championships, showing his great form and intent to achieve something special as the season progresses.

Not resting on his oars, the USF standout sprinter also ran an astonishing 19.95s (2.4m/s) to finish third in the 200m. The time would have been a new PB but for the excessive wind reading, finishing behind Zimbabwe's Makanakaishe Charamba (Auburn) in 19.79s, while Jaiden Reid (LSU) was third in 19.97s.
