South African sprint legend is at the cusp of breaking another Usain Bolt's 100m record with regards his outstanding form this season.

In a list dominated by two countries, South African track icon Akani Simbine has made himself noticeable as he threatens another Usain Bolt's 100m record.

The in-form sprinter now has the fifth most sub-10s in history, dominated by sprint legends Asafa Powell, Justin Gatlin, Usain Bolt, and Maurice Greene.

A recent stat shows the most sub-10s times and consistency in seasons, saturated by Jamaican American sprinters. Simbine sits fifth at 47 times behind Powell (97), Gatlin (64), Bolt (52), and Greene (52).

This shows the South African just needs to run under sub-10s more than five times to move Bolt, and considering his impeccable form and consistency of going below the mark in each of his races this season, the feat isn't going to be a hard one to crack.

Already, Simbine has surpassed the Olympic legend's 10 consecutive season's record of running below the sub-10s mark by making it 11 this year, following his outstanding world-leading 9.90s performance in Botswana.

His form this year has drawn wild recognition and applause from fans and athletes as he has been the most outstanding sprinter this season, highlighted by winning 60m bronze medal at the world indoor championships in March, anchored his country to 4x100m gold at the World Relays, stayed undefeated in all his six 100m races, and currently stands as the world leader at 9.90s clocked in Botswana.

At his last race at the Rabat Diamond League, despite a poor start, he powered to the win in another brilliant time of 9.95s defeating Ferdinand Omanyala and Fred Kerley.

With expectations on him, Simbine will be gunning to finally win an individual medal at the World Championships in Tokyo and cap off an exceptional season.
