This is how Nigeria will line up - Former Super Eagles star names Eric Chelle squad against Tanzania
Former Nigerian international Emmanuel Okoduwa has tipped Victor Osimhen, Ademola Lookman, and Samuel Chukwueze to form the Super Eagles’ starting attacking trio in their opening match of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) against Tanzania.
Nigeria, three-time African champions, have been drawn in Group C of the tournament scheduled to take place in Morocco, alongside Tunisia, Tanzania, and Uganda.
The Super Eagles will kick off their campaign on December 23 against Tanzania’s Taifa Stars, before facing Tunisia’s Carthage Eagles four days later.
They will conclude their group-stage fixtures against Uganda’s Cranes.
What Okoduwa said
Speaking with Footy Africa, Okoduwa expressed strong confidence in Nigeria’s attacking options, singling out Galatasaray striker Victor Osimhen as the focal point of the team.
“Victor Osimhen is the undisputed star of the team and one of the best strikers in the world at the moment, so it is a no-brainer for him to start,” the former Arsenal Kyiv forward said.
Okoduwa believes head coach Éric Chelle will opt for a familiar and dynamic front three to begin the tournament, combining pace, creativity, and goal-scoring threat.
“I think Chelle will go with Ademola Lookman on the left side of the attack, while Samuel Chukwueze, who is in good form at the moment, supports Osimhen from the right,” he explained.
He added, “I believe this is how the Super Eagles will line up for what promises to be a very tough opening game, but I expect Nigeria to come out on top.”
With Nigeria aiming to make a strong start in a competitive group, much attention will be on the attacking trio to deliver early momentum in their quest for a fourth AFCON title.
