'Big battle awaits us' - Lookman says Super Eagles ready for Algeria test
Super Eagles forward Ademola Lookman has expressed confidence in Nigeria’s readiness ahead of their Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2025 quarter-final showdown against Algeria on Saturday in Marrakech.
What Lookman said
The Atalanta winger acknowledged the scale of the challenge facing Nigeria, describing Algeria as one of Africa’s most experienced and battle-hardened sides.
With a place in the semi-finals at stake, Lookman stressed that the Super Eagles are fully aware of what is required to progress.
“The quarterfinals of the AFCON is something to look forward to. Another big battle awaits us, so we need to be ready,” Lookman told CAFonline.
Lookman has been one of Nigeria’s standout performers at the tournament, contributing three goals and five assists as the Super Eagles powered into the last eight with an impressive run of victories.
According to Lookman, success at this stage of the competition goes beyond talent alone.
“Everyone is physically strong. It’s about meeting them on the field, being intelligent, and being ready,” he explained.
“I get the opportunity to represent my country, and I know how much weight that bears. That responsibility pushes me to give everything on the pitch,” he said.
