AFCON 2025: Osimhen missing as Super Eagles camp swells to 26

Only Victor Osimhen and Moses Simon are yet to join Nigeria’s camp as preparations intensify despite a friendly loss to Egypt.

The Nigerian national team’s training camp in Cairo has come alive with the arrival of AC Milan winger Samuel Chukwueze, bringing the total number of players in camp to 26 as preparations for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

Chukwueze checked into camp on Tuesday night, further strengthening head coach Eric Chelle’s squad as the Super Eagles fine-tune their plans in the Egyptian capital.

Camp update

According to Super Eagles media officer Promise Efoghe, the team is now close to full strength, with just two players still expected to arrive.

“The camp is almost complete now. We are only expecting Victor Osimhen and Moses Simon to join the rest of the squad,” he confirmed

The Super Eagles’ schedule for Wednesday includes a gym session at 11 a.m., followed by an intensive full training session on the pitch at 5 p.m.

Friendly setback against Egypt

In a related development, Nigeria suffered a narrow 2-1 defeat to Egypt in an international friendly played on Tuesday.

The match served as a key assessment opportunity for the technical crew, allowing them to evaluate player combinations and tactical adjustments ahead of competitive action.

Despite the result, the friendly provided valuable minutes and insight as the squad continues to gel in camp.
