Khadijat Muhammad: Nigerian youngster aims to break Coco Gauf Grand Slam record

The Abuja-based young Tennis star added that she is planning to work hard to get International Tennis Federation (ITF) rankings.

Nigerian Tennis star Khadijat Muhammad has set her sights on breaking Coco Gauf's record as she emulates her skills and diligence on the court.

The number one seeded player at the ongoing National Tennis Juniors Tournament in Lagos confirmed in an interview with Pulse Sports that Coco Gauf is her mentor and role model.

The Abuja-based young Tennis star also stated that she is planning to work hard to get International Tennis Federation (ITF) rankings.

"Coco Gauf is my mentor because she was a very good and nice player, even though she had a very great fall and went for a medical break she had to come back and play as this was tough and challenging," she said after defeating Sumisola Okajare in her first game."

"I plan to play more harder and faster to get more points at the International Tennis Federation (ITF) to strive till I reach my mentor's level," Khadijat narrated.

Coco Gauff: A Tennis Prodigy Making History

The American tennis star Coco Gauff is a rising force on the court, having etched her name into the sport's history books at a young age.

Gauff's professional journey began in March 2019 at the Miami Open. Being a teenager then, she received a wildcard entry into the qualifying rounds of Wimbledon, becoming the youngest player ever to qualify for the main draw.

There, she stunned the world with a victory over tennis legend Venus Williams and an impressive run to the fourth round.

With seven WTA Tour singles titles, including a US Open championship, and eight doubles titles to her name, Coco Gauff is a force to be reckoned with.

Nigeria's Khadijat Muhammad hopes to draw inspiration from Coco Gauff in having a great career in the game of Tennis.
