GRASSROOTS Fagbemi calls for tennis development in Oyo

The Chairman of the Oyo State Tennis Association assured tennis lovers and sports lovers in general that more activities to discover future stars in Oyo State are in the plan and will soon kick off.

The Chairman of the Oyo State Tennis Association, Mogaji Akin Fagbemi, has urged individuals, schools, philanthropists, and politicians to work together with the state tennis association to develop future stars.

In a statement, the association's head of media and publicity, Olusola Alabi, explained that Fagbemi said that talent discovery is not a day job and cannot be handled by just one person alone.

Fagbemi also called on politicians to sponsor tennis and football competitions to discover future stars at the grassroots.

He also noted that it's time to give tennis more attention, as our culture has given attention to other sports, and that schools should include tennis as a sport because it's a great way to develop players and find future stars.

Fagbemi assured tennis lovers and sports lovers in general that more activities to discover future stars in Oyo State are in the plan and will soon kick off.

Meanwhile, he advised parents and guidance to allow their children who have a passion for Tennis game to pursue their dream.

Oyo defeats Osun in a friendly

Oyo State tennis junior players engaged Osun State tennis junior players in a friendly encounter.

In the U-10 category, Ashim Ghazal of Oyo State defeated Samuel Adeyinka of Osun State (6-3).

Iwalewa Waliyat of Osun State secured a 6-2 win over Mubarak Babalola of Oyo State, while Adejola Tomiwa of Oyo State defeated Mary Adeyinka of Osun State 6-1 in the U-14 category.

The friendly was played on the tennis court of Adamasingba Stadium in Ibadan, Oyo State.

Recall that Oyo State had representatives in this year's CBN Junior Tennis Championship in Lagos.

The state representatives are Taiwo Roqeebat, John Ilerioluwa , Ghazal Ashim, and Ganiyu Barakat.
