Zimbabwe 1-1 Nigeria: Iheanacho's goal not enough as toothless Super Eagles fail Nigerians again
Nigeria Super Eagles are walking a tight rope after another poor outing in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier.
The Super Eagles failed to return to winning ways after another disappointing draw following a 1-1 draw against Zimbabwe in Rwanda on Sunday.
Super Eagles drop more points
After the shocking result in Nigeria’s FIFA World Cup qualifier at home to Lesotho, expectations were high that the Super Eagles would bounce back against Zimbabwe in the second match.
However, it turned out to be more of the same as Jose Peseiro’s Eagles dropped two further points in the race for the next FIFA World Cup.
Nigeria started from behind once again, this time a power and stunning goal from 35 yards by Walter Musona left the Warriors in dreamland after just 26 minutes of play.
It was not the start Peseiro and his Eagles needed as they had to fight from behind for the second successive game.
After the break, the Portuguese manager made three quick changes with Victor Boniface, Kelechi Iheanacho and Bright Osayi-Samuel all thrown in.
And 21 minutes later, his substitution paid off as one of the substitutes, Iheanacho, netted the decisive equaliser for the Super Eagles.
As was the case in Uyo, Akwa Ibom, Nigeria equalised in the 67th minute at Butare but was unable to get the all-important winner in the end.
The Warriors held on for a share of the spoils, with Nigeria’s Super Eagles now walking a tightrope in the journey to reach the 2026 global showpiece.
