Speculation has surrounded Fernandez's future at Rangers throughout the summer transfer window after last season's PFA player of the year nomination.

The likes of Italy's Atalanta and German powerhouse Bayer Leverkusen have all been monitoring the player's situation.

Despite the uncertainty, the 25-year-old has remained part of the squad, starting the new season as the Glasgow club aims to dethrone rivals Celtic in the Scottish Premiership.

Hammers Target Fernandez

Following their relegation from the Premier League last season, West Ham are determined to make an immediate return to the top flight.

Strengthening their squad is a top priority, with the defence identified as a key area for improvement.

The club's need for a new centre-back has intensified after they failed to secure a permanent deal for French defender Axel Disasi.

Disasi, who was on loan at Crystal Palace, is now reportedly close to joining the Eagles permanently, forcing West Ham to explore other options.

According to recent reports, this has led the Hammers to identify Fernandez as a prime target.

The London club is said to be willing to meet Rangers' valuation, which is reported to be around £21 million.

A transfer at that price would set a new record for Rangers, eclipsing the £19.3 million they received from Fulham for fellow Nigerian international Calvin Bassey in 2023.

However, West Ham face stiff competition, with both Atalanta and Bayer Leverkusen also expressing strong interest in the defender.

As the transfer window nears its conclusion, a move away from Scotland could offer Fernandez a fresh start to rediscover his best form.

For now, West Ham appear to be leading the chase as they look to build a squad capable of securing promotion back to the Premier League.
