Victor Ikpeba has voiced his concern over the current form of Super Eagles winger Ademola Lookman, who was underwhelming against Gabon.
Lookman struggled to make an impact during Nigeria’s dramatic 4-1 victory over Gabon, primarily because manager Eric Chelle deployed him out of position in a 4-4-2 formation that saw them operate as wide midfielders.
Both were substituted around the hour mark, with Chidera Ejuke replacing Chukwueze and Moses Simon coming on for Lookman.
Ikpeba suggested that Lookman's difficult start to the season with Atalanta, following his issues and failed move to Inter Milan, is affecting his sharpness.
"I will like to see more from Lookman, we have not seen the Lookman of old," Ikpeba stated during SuperSport's halftime analysis.
"We can understand, he's short of match fitness and that form is not there yet. Recently he scored (for Atalanta).
"The likes of Chukwueze and Lookman, we need to see more from these two players."
Despite their struggles, Nigeria secured their final spot after Akor Adams' opener and Mario Lemina’s late equalizer forced extra time, where goals from Ejuke and a Victor Osimhen brace secured the emphatic win.
