Paris Saint-Germain head coach Luis Enrique has brushed aside concerns over his team's unexpected trip to Rennes for their Ligue 1 opener, but he has sounded the alarm over the condition of the Parc des Princes pitch after a record-breaking French heatwave forced the fixture to be relocated.

The reigning French champions were due to begin their title defence at home on Sunday, but severe damage to the turf at Parc des Princes caused by France's hottest July on record has made the stadium unfit to host the match.

As a result, PSG will now face Stade Rennais at Roazhon Park, the home ground of their opponents, in an unusual start to their league campaign.

Luis Enrique embraces the challenge

Despite the disruption, Enrique insisted his squad has maintained its normal preparations and is ready to adapt to the unexpected circumstances.

“We've been training as usual... but playing in Rennes is different; we have to adapt,” Enrique told reporters.

He added, “These are things I can't control, so we have to see it as a challenge.

“We like to play attacking, entertaining football, for which you need a pitch in the best possible condition, which isn't the case at the moment.”

The concerns do not end with the season opener.

PSG are scheduled to host AS Monaco in their next league fixture on Friday, leaving stadium officials with limited time to restore the damaged playing surface.
