Mbappe’s goals for France and Real Madrid were six more than England and Bayern Munich goal machine Harry Kane with Manchester City and Norway striker Erling Haaland completing the top three with 57.

Nigeria and Galatasaray striker Victor Osimhen was the top-ranking African striker with 46 goals for his club and the Super Eagles but where did Harambee Stars captain Michael Olunga rank?

Olunga did not enjoy a great year in front of goal as he had done in 2023 and 2024. Olunga surpassed Osimhen and even the great Lionel Messi in 2023, when his 35 goals in the calendar year saw him secure 22nd spot in the global goal-scoring chart that year.

However, his numbers dipped in 2025, seeing him tumble from the top rankings in what was his less prolific season since moving abroad.

In the year 2025, Olunga managed 18 goals for both his clubs and Harambee Stars. The Kenyan striker started the year still at Al-Duhail, where he scored eight goals last year before moving to Al Arabi at the conclusion of his deal.

At Al Arabi, he scored six goals last year, taking his tally at club level to 14 in 2025 while he weighed in with four goals for Harambee Stars, being his strikes against The Gambia and Gabon in March and a brace against Seychelles in September, all in 2026 World Cup qualifiers.

Olunga did not even make the top 250 scorers in the world in 2025 but given his quality and experience in front of goal, he will be looking to get higher up the charts in 2026.
