“That is why we always say the Premier League is the best in the world,” he said, per the BBC. “We want to do something special here and this is how we need to play. We scored four goals against the best team in the world. It's good to go into the international break like this.

"The approach of the game was good. We were brave. That is the idea of football. I am so proud and happy. The players never gave up. The reaction of the players was amazing.”

Referee Anthony Taylor pointed to the spot after a grapple between Haaland and Chelsea’s Marc Cucurella saw the Norwegian brought to the ground. A VAR review went on after the call and the technology upheld the on-field decision.

Former Liverpool man Carragher, who is now a pundit, believes the call was harsh and VAR should have intervened.
