Wenger, who led Arsenal to three Premier League titles, identified England and his home nation, France, as the leading contenders to win the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The former legendary manager believes the Three Lions possess the quality needed to finally end their long wait for a major international trophy.

However, he gives the edge to the 2018 champions, Les Bleus, whom he described as "super favourites."

"England are one of the favourites of the World Cup," Wenger stated, according to Goal.

"They are always nearly there. And they have to make the step. They have the quality to win."

Despite England's potential, Wenger explained why he considers France the team to beat.

"But trying to be as objective as possible, I think France are the super favourites," he added. "Just for one reason. They have more world-class strikers than any other country."

France will be able to call on the likes of Kylian Mbappe, Ousmane Dembele, Hugo Ekitike, Michael Olise and Marcus Thuram in forward positions, potentially the nation with the most attacking depth.

However, Les Bleus must be wary of powerhouses like defending champions Argentina, and the likes of Spain, Portugal, Germany and even dark horses Brazil.
