Madugu was initially appointed on an interim basis in September 2024 to fill the void left by Randy Waldrum's departure.

However, he quickly proved his mettle by leading the team to a remarkable 10th WAFCON title in Morocco.

Super Falcons boss Justine Madugu will battle Sonia Bompastor, Arthur Elias, Renée Slegers, and Sarina Wiegman for the Women’s Team Coach of the Year Trophy.

His success was further recognised on the global stage with a historic nomination for the 2025 Ballon d'Or Women's Team Coach of the Year award.

The Super Falcons, the defending champions, are scheduled to begin their WAFCON 2026 qualification campaign in October with a two-legged tie against the Benin Republic.

The first leg will be played in Benin, with the return leg to be hosted in Nigeria.

A top source within the NFF, speaking on condition of anonymity, confirmed the precarious situation to UK based sports journalist Osasu Obayiuwana.

"One of my top @thenff sources confirms that Justine Madugu, the #WAFCON 2025 cup-winning coach and @ballondor nominee, is yet to be given a new contract to manage the @NGSuper_Falcons, with qualifiers for the 2026 WAFCON starting in less than a month’s time.
