Google Nigeria’s 2025 search data has delivered a startling revelation for Nigerian football fans and followers: Arsenal stars completely overshadowed Victor Osimhen, the Super Eagles’ star striker, in online popularity.

In Google Nigeria’s Year in Search 2025, Premier League leaders Arsenal took centre stage, with new signing Viktor Gyokeres topping the sports personality charts. 

Alejandro Garnacho, the controversial Manchester United outcast, who joined Chelsea, claimed second place, while Tottenham’s Xavi Simons ranked third. 

English giants Arsenal and Manchester United each had three players in the top searches, Chelsea had two, and Liverpool had one.

The full top 10 list reads like a Premier League extravaganza: Arsenal’s trio of Viktor Gyokeres, Eberechi Eze, and Noni Madueke, Manchester United’s duo Benjamin Sesko, and Bryan Mbeumo, plus Chelsea’s Jaoa Pedro and Garnacho, along with Andre Silva, Alexandre Isak, and others.

Victor Osimhen’s absence from this elite search list will come as a shock to many, especially considering his spectacular performances on loan at Galatasaray, which led to a blockbuster €75 million transfer from Napoli to the Lions. 

Despite being Africa’s most expensive striker, Osimhen failed to capture the same online attention in Nigeria as the Premier League’s Arsenal stars dominated.

This trend reveals much about Nigerian football fans’ priorities ahead of AFCON 2025, where Osimhen will hope to lead the Super Eagles to a fourth crown.
