NPFL: Mo-points in the bag as champions Rivers United go top

Defending champions of the NPFL Rivers United have moved to the top of Group B after another win in the bag.

The Pride of Rivers made it back-to-back wins in the league after a hard-fought 1-0 win over Sunshine Stars in Port Harcourt on Monday.

Morice Chukwu was the hero of the day as he netted the decisive winner in the first half to give the holders an important victory.

After a painful departure from the CAF Confederation Cup, CAFCC, Stanley Eguma and his boys have switched to the football league hoping to end on a high.

United’s journey in the continent left a backlog of matches with the Pride now forced to play catch as the NPFL enters its final lap.

The champions have looked good enough for the playoff with the win against Sunshine taking them a step closer to the playoff.

United have now taken seven points from a possible nine to leapfrog Lobi Stars at the top of the table in Group B.

Up next for the champions, the host surprise package Doma United, who are looking to also pick one of the tickets to the Super Six in what has been an outstanding debut campaign in the NPFL.
