Nigeria vs South Africa: Officials for Super Eagles against Bafana Bafana World Cup qualifier
When the Super Eagles of Nigeria play South Africa's Bafana Bafana in a 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying encounter at Godswill Akpabio Stadium, Uyo, next month, Chadian official Alhadi Allaou Mahamat will be in the center.
Twelve years ago, Mahamat, now 38, turned pro and officiated in international competitions, including the CAF Champions League and CAF Confederation Cup. He officiated the 34th Africa Cup of Nations earlier this year, which took place in Cote d'Ivoire.
At the match, which is scheduled to start at 8 p.m. Nigerian time on Friday, June 7, Mahamat will be assisted by Sudanese official Mohammed Ibrahim Abdallah (assistant referee 1), Abelmiro Dos Reis Monte Negro from Sao Tome & Principe (assistant referee 2), and fellow countryman Pousri Armi Alfred (fourth official).
Day 3's commissioner will be Ghanaian Munkaila Nassam Adam, and the referee assessor will be Egypt's Ahmed Sayed Abou Elela.
Additionally, the CAF has named 43-year-old Ethiopian official Bamlak Tessema Weyesa as the referee for the Super Eagles vs. Cheetahs game on Day 4 at Stade Felix Houphouet-Boigny, Abidjan. On Monday, June 10th, at 4 p.m. CIV time (5 p.m. Nigeria), that match will begin.
Bamlak Weyesa, a legendary figure in African refereeing, will collaborate with fellow countrymen Temesgin Samuel Atango (assistant referee 1), Tigle Gizaw Belachew (assistant referee 2), and Tewodros Mitiku (fourth official).
David Yameogo of Burkina Faso will act as the commissioner, Ivorian Claude Elloh as the security officer, and Algerian Djamel Haimoudi as the referee assessor.
This will be the first Super Eagles meeting with the Bafana Bafana since their semifinal meeting at the AFCON.
