Itauma was picking his shots carefully, and Whyte was obviously feeling the power and back on the ropes.
Despite his valiant attempt to stand again, Whyte was judged unfit to continue after a right hook to the temple proved to be the decisive blow.
Following a series of accurate and potent combinations, Itauma delivered a booming right to knock 37-year-old Whyte down.
When Whyte had gotten back up on his feet, referee Mikael Hook waived the bout off with 119 seconds remaining.

With 11 of his victories coming via knockout, Itauma has now won all 13 of his professional fights.
Itauma has eight first-round stoppages on his record and has only advanced past the second round twice.
Since winning in just 23 seconds in his professional debut in 2023, Itauma has demonstrated maturity beyond his years, and he has gotten better with each new challenge.
The rising star put on another impressive show, and ringside spectators included heavyweight rivals Joseph Parker, Derek Chisora, and Lawrence Okolie.
