Real Madrid defeated Mallorca 2-1 in a match where they had three goals disallowed. The first was scored by Kylian Mbappé, but it was ruled out for a supposed offside position.
Just six minutes into the game, Leo Roman's net was shaken for the first time. Fed by Trent Alexander-Arnold, Mbappé darted past his direct opponent, Raillo, and clinically finished past the visitors' goalkeeper.
The Frenchman celebrated the goal, but his effort was chalked off following a VAR review, which determined that Mbappé was in an offside position when the pass was made.
Mbappé questions VAR
The Frenchman posted a still frame of the moment he made his run, implying he disagreed with the referee's decision, as reported by GSP.
The VAR graphic highlighted the Frenchman's left shoulder and part of his head as being ahead of the last defender, Valjent.
However, the line appeared to be drawn exactly on the tip of the defender's foot, confusing the referees' final call.
Even Mbappé seemed to protest, posting a screenshot of that moment late last night, from which it is not entirely clear that he was actually offside.
Finally, Los Blancos had a third goal ruled out, scored by Arda Güler in the 55th minute. The same Mbappé had another goal disallowed, also for offside, in the 45+1 minute.
The referee judged that the Turkish player had committed a handball, despite his left arm being tucked against his body as the ball was cleared towards him from close range. His reflex action was to bring his arm to his chest to protect himself from the ball.
Despite a nervy finish, which saw Alvaro Carreras clear off the line with the score at 2-1, Real Madrid secured the win and now have maximum points after three matches.
