Marcus Rashford set to become Manchester United’s top earner

Rashford had an impressive season, scoring 17 goals and five assists and helping United qualify for the Champions League.

Rashford presently makes a basic salary of £200K per week, and his contract has an additional year left because the club exercised its 12-month option to extend it.

According to reports, Manchester United are looking to extend Rashford’s contract and offer, making him the highest earner at the club. 

Manchester United are looking to swap De Gea’s salary for Rashford, with the Spaniard set to leave the club after a failed negotiation.

De Gea, 32, is now out of contract with United after he was offered a pay cut by the club but rejected the deal.

According to the Sun, United has warned the Spaniard they won't go any higher than their current offer of a new contract at a drastically reduced £200K per week.

If De Gea was to sign the new deal, Rashford's salary would essentially be exchanged and will earn £375k a week. The senior brass at Old Trafford, according to insiders, is completely unconcerned with the goalkeeper's upcoming exit.

Rashford's pay would increase it by £8.4 million over five seasons, with United holding the option for a 12-month extension.

De Gea is yet to make a decision about his future and Eric Ten Hag is looking to bring in another keeper to replace him.

First-choice goalkeeper for England, Jordan Pickford of Everton, is thought to be interested in moving, even if it means competing for a spot in the first squad.

United have other options available for the replacement of De Gea as they look to sort out the goalkeeper position.  

Dean Henderson, United second choice goalkeeper will also be sold this summer if a buyer can be found. Henderson is one of several players that will be sold so that Ten Hag may purchase a striker and a midfielder.
