‘It helped me a lot’ - Super Eagles star reveals how advice from teammate helped him

Olympiakos secured an emphatic 6-0 victory over AEK Athens in the Greek Cup semifinal on Wednesday.

The Super Eagles star was in action on the night and delivered an impressive performance for his team.

His defensive focus and awareness helped Olympiakos put on a strong show that saw them brutally destroy AEK with an offensive display.

After the match, Onyemaechi talked about how his strategy for marking the Swedish winger was greatly influenced by a chat with Ortega.

"We had spoken with Ortega and he gave me advice. We know he is a strong player. I followed Ortega’s advice and it helped me a lot," Onyemaechi told Cosmote TV, via Gazzetta Greece. 

In addition, Onyemaechi emphasised how Olympiakos head coach José Luis Mendilibar inspired the team to take an insurmountable advantage in the first leg.

"Our coach told us to be focused, to forget about the next match and to finish qualifying today. That was the motivation."

As Mendilibar's team continues to pursue trophies in both domestic and European tournaments, they will try to keep up their momentum, as Olympiakos is in the lead for a semi-final spot.
