Alexandrova won the first set 7-6(0), and Andreescu was leading the second 2-0 before she rolled her ankle. She was heard saying to the doctors, "I've never felt this kind of pain before," and then taken off in a wheelchair to a standing ovation from the crowd.
Andreescu was having a great tournament in the Miami Open, defeating Emma Raducanu and Maria Sakkari on her way to the Round of 16, so it's sad to see her tournament appearance end abruptly.
She will look forward to getting better and rediscovering her fantastic form before the injury occured.
Meanwhile, Pulse Sports reported that Sorana Cirstea stunned Aryna Sabalenka to reach the Miami Open semifinals, her first WTA 1000 semifinal in ten years.
