‘I feel disappointed’ - Iwobi displeased after Fulham failed to complete comeback against City
The Cottagers suffered a thrilling 5-4 loss to Manchester City at Craven Cottage, despite a remarkable second-half comeback.
The team found themselves trailing 5-1 by the 55th minute, staring down the barrel of a heavy defeat.
Refusing to surrender, Iwobi sparked a potential comeback just two minutes later, curling a precise low shot past Gianluigi Donnarumma to reduce the deficit.
The fightback was further fuelled by his Nigerian compatriot, Samuel Chukwueze, who came off the bench to score a brace, bringing Marco Silva's side close to an equaliser.
Iwobi speaks on performance
Speaking after the match, Iwobi admitted to having mixed emotions. While proud of the team's resilience, he was ultimately deflated by the result.
"I feel disappointed because we didn't get anything out of the fighting spirit that we showed, but I think we have to take the positivity from the game," the 29-year-old told Fulham's official website.
"We showed that fighting spirit in the second half, but unfortunately, there's nothing to show for it."
Iwobi revealed that manager Marco Silva's halftime talk was crucial in motivating the team to keep fighting for the fans, who remained vocal throughout the contest.
"The manager spoke to us at halftime, saying one thing that we can't let our heads drop, no matter what happened and also do it for the fans," he explained.
"And to be fair, they were with us till the last minute of the game, so we put on a show for the people watching, but it wasn't the result we wanted."
