What Cucurella said

Cucurella attributes his current success and adaptability to Maresca's principles to his early footballing education at Barcelona's renowned La Masia academy.

Despite scoring seven goals this season, the Spaniard humorously admitted he does not specifically practice finishing.

Instead, he credits his goalscoring exploits to improved positional understanding and being in the right place at the right time.

He explained that La Masia's focus on possession-based football and understanding the game aligns well with Maresca's philosophy.

“I don’t work on finishing!” said Cucurella. ‘It’s more about understanding the position, being in the right moment, and it’s true that this season I’ve scored a lot of goals.

“When you score a few, you get the feeling that every time you’re in the box, you’ll score. It’s really good, and hopefully I can score more in the future.

“I think it’s more about being in the right place at the right time. Some of them are just about getting into the box, not thinking too much, or taking one touch. It’s about understanding the position and the base of the game.”
