Gor Mahia: Broadening the Financial Horizon

The Ksh 5 million commitment from Kansai Plascon is a strategic injection of capital designed to support various facets of the club’s operations.

While Gor Mahia already has a substantial main sponsorship deal, this new partnership underscores a critical pivot towards professionalising the club’s business structure by attracting private sector investment across different tiers.

The move comes as part of a broader vision articulated by the club’s Patron, Eliud Owalo, who has been vocal about transforming Gor Mahia into a sustainable business entity, akin to global football giants.

Eliud Owalo has consistently emphasised the need for a re-engineered business model to ensure the long-term viability of one of Kenya’s most successful community-based soccer clubs.

"We need to transform the club and think of corporate governance. There must be a first step towards that journey, and Plascon supports the move," Gor Mahia chairman, Ambrose Rachier, said.

“We wanted to have a partnership with an organisation, and when we did our research, Gor Mahia perfectly fit our desire; this partnership (Gor Mahia x Plascon) is like two kings coming together; we share common values and ethics, we are looking forward to walking the journey together,” Plascon Managing Director, Kota Enami

Crucially, the partnership's focus extends beyond the senior men's team. A core aspect of the agreement is the potential for Plascon’s support to benefit Gor Mahia Youth FC and Gor Mahia Queens, the club's women's team.

This inclusive approach is aimed at strengthening the entire Gor Mahia ecosystem, nurturing young talent, and providing resources for the development of women's football.

The financial support is expected to ease some of the logistical and operational burdens, allowing the club to invest in key areas like player welfare and structured youth development programs.

Meanwhile, Plascon Kenya, a part of the Japan-based Kansai Paint Company Limited Group, has demonstrated its commitment to supporting local sports. The company’s decision to partner with the 21-time league champions aligns with its brand vision of enhancing community engagement and corporate social responsibility.
