The two-time African champions, under the chairmanship of legendary Nwankwo Kanu, and coach Stanley Eguma, arrived in Lagos with high hopes, having confidently posted about a "dance with City" ahead of the match.

They backed up their words by taking an early lead in the 13th minute, courtesy of a deflection that resulted in an own goal.

However, their advantage was short-lived. Ikorodu City responded just four minutes later when defensive midfielder Kelechi delivered a perfect pass to Joseph Arumala, who expertly finished with a first-time, left-footed volley to level the score.

The second half was a tense affair, with Ikorodu City pushing hard for a winning goal. The biggest moment of controversy came late in the game when a strong penalty shout was waved away by the referee.

An Enyimba player appeared to handle the ball inside the box, but the official remained unmoved, much to the frustration of the home team and fans.

Enyimba held on for a share of the spoils, a point they celebrated at the final whistle. However, the draw cost them their lead at the top of the table.

Their fall to second place comes after Nasarawa United secured a 2-0 victory over Katsina United, making them the new league leaders.

Despite extending their unbeaten run to six matches, the draw will feel like a missed opportunity for Enyimba, especially given the circumstances surrounding the late penalty shout.

The team will now look to reclaim their position when they welcome former boss Finidi George and his Rivers United to Aba next weekend.
