De Bruyne reveals why he chose to move in the opposite direction from Osimhen
While players like Victor Osimhen seek exits from Naples for more lucrative opportunities, De Bruyne is headed in the opposite direction, prioritising competitive football and quality of life over high-paying offers from Saudi Arabia and MLS.
De Bruyne reveals reason for choosing Napoli
In his first press conference as a Napoli player, De Bruyne explained that his move wasn’t about money, but the “all-round” appeal of the club’s project.
“Napoli offered the best combination of competitiveness and lifestyle,” he said, highlighting the club’s Serie A-winning pedigree and his family’s personal ties to the region.
Married in Campania, the Belgian saw Naples as more than a footballing destination, but also a lifestyle choice.
He praised Napoli's ambition and ongoing squad strengthening, underlining his desire to continue performing at a top level in a new environment.
Turning down Saudi and MLS temptations
Unlike Osimhen, who is pushing for a Galatasaray exit after previous tensions with Napoli fans, De Bruyne embraced the club’s challenge.
“The project excited me,” he said, referencing meetings with the club’s sporting director and outlining how Napoli's vision aligned with his own desire to stay in elite competition.
While lucrative deals from Saudi Arabia and the U.S. were on the table, he chose Serie A to prove he still has plenty to offer at age 34.
“As long as I’m playing, I want to get the most out of myself,” De Bruyne added, making it clear that legacy and fulfilment matter more than the paycheck.
