The stakes were high in Uyo as United needed to take advantage of home advantage after losing their opener against Pyramids FC.

Rivers United appeared destined for glory after defender Lamine Mamadou Camara inadvertently handed them the lead on 37 minutes with an own goal, sparking early momentum for the Nigerian side.

Finidi George of Rivers United admitted he is devastated..

However, RS Berkane overturned a first-half deficit to claim a crucial away victory with two stoppage-time goals.

As the Moroccan visitors refused to give in, mounting a remarkable late surge, they were rewarded when Youness El Kaabi drilled in an equaliser from the left side of the box following a chaotic set-piece scramble during added time.

Then, in the 99th minute, Mounir Chouiar sealed the sensational comeback with a calm finish from the heart of the penalty area, to fire RS Berkane to the top of Group A.

For Rivers United, this marks back-to-back defeats to North African opponents, leaving them rooted to the bottom of the group with zero points from a possible six.

After the match, a visibly devastated Finidi George admitted the pain of defeat was worse than any draw would have been.
