Blanchar scores first senior goal to spur Wakiso

Wakiso Giants celebrated their first victory of the StarTimes Uganda Premier League season with an impressive 2-0 win over UPDF at Bombo Barracks Ground on Friday.

The match carried more significance for Wakiso’s breakthrough youngster Mulamba Blancher who scored his first senior goal for the club.

Mulamba started on the bench, but set the Purple Sharks on trail to victory shortly after replacing Baker Lukooya on the hour mark.

Four minutes after coming on, the young midfielder scored the first goal of the game, with a rebound from close range, after goalkeeper Yusuf Wasswa parried Kenneth Kimera’s shot into his path.

But the Purple Sharks weren't finished. Kimera sprinkled the gold dust on the victory in the 79th minute, leaving the entire UPDF backline including goalkeeper Wasswa helpless.

UPDF, however, had their own opportunities, but they were consistently thwarted by Wakiso Giants' goalkeeper, Bashir Ssekagya who stood gallantly to defend his his first clean sheet of the season.

This victory marked a turning point for Wakiso Giants, propelling them to ninth place in the league with four points.

On the flip side, UPDF FC remained winless after three games and dropped to 13th place with a solitary point to their name.

UPDF FC will be eager to bounce back in their next fixture against NEC FC at Omondi Stadium.

Wakiso Giants, riding high on confidence, will take on URA FC at Mehta Stadium on Saturday, looking to build on this momentum.
